Reoptimizing a day that has already started

When to re-run the optimizer mid-day, and why it is whole-day only.

Reoptimize rebuilds the plan for an entire operating day against the current state of the world — trips that have already completed, vehicles now out of service, and everything added since the day was first built.

Why whole-day only

Reoptimizing a subset is unsafe. The trips left out of the run still occupy vehicles and time, and a solver that cannot see them will happily produce a plan that conflicts with them. Rebuilding the whole day is the only version of this operation that produces a plan you can trust.

Running it

  1. Select the day in Trips. The action is available when you are looking at the whole day rather than a filtered subset of statuses.
  2. Start the reoptimize. Completed and in-progress trips are respected as fixed points.
  3. Review the revised plan before publishing it — mid-day reoptimization moves work between drivers who have already been told what their day looks like.
